Job Description

The Chief Medical Officer of Medicine is a key member of the executive leadership team responsible for overseeing the delivery of high-quality, safe, and effective medical care across all departments under the Medicine umbrella. This includes providing strategic vision, operational leadership, clinical governance, and fostering a culture of excellence in medical practice and patient care.

Performance Expectations:

• Provide clinical leadership for all departments within internal medicine and associated specialties.
• Develop and implement clinical policies, procedures, and strategic initiatives aligned with organizational goals.
• Advise executive leadership on clinical matters, including care models, service lines, and population health strategies.
• Collaborate with the executive team on system-wide initiatives related to the quality of care initiatives, capacity and patient flow and cost efficiencies.
• Lead physician engagement, recruitment and retention efforts for all specialties and sub-specialties.

• Ensure high standards of medical care, patient safety, and clinical performance across the medical division.
• Lead quality improvement initiatives, clinical audits, and evidence-based care pathways.
• Monitor and address clinical outcomes, patient satisfaction, and safety metrics.

• Supervise and support department chairs and medical directors within the division.
• Lead physician recruitment, credentialing, onboarding, performance reviews, and continuing education.
• Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and professional development among physicians.

• Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, including CMS, Joint Commission, and other accrediting bodies.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of healthcare laws and best practices in medical governance.

• Collaborate with nursing, administration, finance, IT, and other departments to optimize care delivery systems.
• Support integration of care across ambulatory, inpatient, and transitional settings.

• Promote integration of clinical research, academic partnerships, and adoption of innovative practices.
• Encourage use of technology, data analytics, and digital health to enhance clinical care and outcomes.

• MD or DO degree from an accredited institution.
• Board certification in Internal Medicine or a medical subspecialty.
• Active and unrestricted medical license.
• Minimum of 10 years of clinical experience, including at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
• Proven track record in clinical leadership, quality improvement, and healthcare administration.
